The discovery of UVC Light Sanitizer to kill microbes

UVC disinfection: A promising method
UVC is found to disinfect (inactivate) higher levels of viruses, like SARS-CoV-1, that is related to the COVID-19 that is rapidly affecting millions of people every day at present. The International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA) supposes that this UV disinfection method will greatly help reduce the transmission of the virus that causes COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, etc.
How microorganisms die with UVC?
Biological experiments prove when microorganisms are exposed to concentrated or deep UV light, preferably UVC (200 – 300 nm); DNA, RNA, and proteins absorb it.
When proteins absorb the UVC, it ruptures the cell walls and causes the death of the microorganisms. When DND/RNA absorbs the UVC, it inactivates the double helix strands by forming thymine dimers. These dimers hinder the replication process. When appropriate doses of UVC passes, the replication ceases. At a higher magnitude, it directly kills.
There has been adequate research that is already completed in areas of efficacy, log reduction, biosafety levels, UV light disinfection effectiveness, exposure/intensity of Ultraviolet (UVC) disinfection, etc. on killing microorganisms like bacteria and viruses.
A study on “Inactivation of the coronavirus that induces severe acute respiratory syndrome, SARS-CoV” revealed that the SARS virus was inactivated by exposure to UVC light at a distance of 3 cm for 15 min. The study observed a 400-fold decrease in the virus until 6 mins.
Between 6-10 mins, no further inactivation was observed. Whereas, after 15 mins, the virus was completely inactivated up to the extreme limits of the detection level of the assay.
Another study was undertaken which discusses the use of large scale UV-inactivated SARS coronavirus to develop a vaccine.
There were also studies on the levels of UV doses that are necessary to attain increased log activation of organisms like Bacteria, Viruses, Algae, and Protozoa.
Surprising facts of UVC application in China
